Black Art Rising
For Black artists, their art imitates life and all its all-too-real trials and tribulations. In the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder, the hope was that the unrest would lead to a peaceful existence, to real equality. So we wanted art to mimic this by creating an exhibit inspired by the current civil unrest and the ongoing fight of the Black community in order to give Black artists more exposure and resources to express themselves.
Black Art Rising is a digital exhibition created to help amplify the voices of young Black artists. LIFEWTR dedicated its social platform in the fourth quarter of last year to keep the call for change alive. Every week, they showcased the work of a contemporary Black artist, who then passed the torch to the next – ensuring the light never went out on these crucial, creative voices. We also encouraged creators to post their work using #BlackArtRising.
